So what does effective design mean? To put it simply, it means conveying information in a visually appealing way. There is a huge difference between just putting information on a page and carefully placing information on a page.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when designing your business’s assets:
- What do you want the viewer to focus on? Make sure to make that initial point of focus stand out.
- Now that you have their attention, what else do they need to know? Make sure to put the rest of the information in your design so it makes sense. Most people read from top to bottom and left to right, so your design should follow a similar pattern.
- Bring on the balance! Make sure that your overall design is balanced. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your design has to have the same amount of information all over, it means to have some harmony to it. Give your design elements some space to breathe, or the colors are compatible together.
- Color is key! It is helpful to know what colors bring on which emotions in the viewer when designing. If you run a peaceful spa, you may not want to use aggressive colors like bright red or pink.
Conversely, here are a few things to avoid:
- There is such a thing as too much information! It is much easier to keep a viewer’s attention if the information you are relaying is clear and concise.
- We know that all of the information is important, but if everything stands out then the focal point is unclear. Make sure to understand the hierarchy of information and draw focus on the most important information.
