Planning Your Social Media

It can seem like quite the daunting task to take time each day to focus on posting on social media. Having a social media presence is vital for your business, so what can you do? The answer is planning your social media ahead of time!

Planning ahead can make it so much easier for you to manage your time. All you have to do is set aside a chunk of time one day instead of focusing on posting each day.

When planning your social media, it is easiest to plan one month ahead. For example, we are in April, so by the end of the month, you should have your social media plan for May.

To get started with your planning, a spreadsheet is your best friend! List the dates, any holidays, a spot for captions, and a spot for visuals.

Once your spreadsheet is set up, start creating! Filling in a caption for each day you post should be the first step, then using the captions create your graphics. You don’t necessarily have to create a graphic, but choosing which visual you are using to accompany the caption is important. Visuals encourage people to stop and read the caption. It can be a photo, a video, or even things like polls and maps.

After you have created your captions and visuals for your posts, you can schedule them! There are a variety of social media scheduling tools available. Facebook offers the option to schedule for both their platform as well as Instagram. It is free and built-in to the platform! There are others available as well that let you schedule for multiple platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest.

It is important to remember that even if you plan your posts ahead of time, you should continue to post about events that may happen during the month. If you planned and scheduled your posts for May, but then attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 7th for another business, snap a couple of pictures and post about it!
